About Ayla

I began my journey into the world of bellydance in January of 2006 at the YMCA in Nashua, New Hampshire where I learned the art of Egyptian, Arabic and American Cabaret style of dance.  From there I mainly studied under Hyetti of Kingston along with a few other teachers in the area.

My dancing has evolved from my "roots" of Egyptian / Arabic / American Cabaret style of dance to a short beginner stint or dabble if you will, into the styles of Candle, Bollywood and Tribal style dancing.  During this time frame I found the style that spoke to my heart... Turkish Rom and Oriental.  My inspiration in these styles of dance are Artemis Mourat and an Arlington, MA based Turkish dancer. Aslahan.  If asked what my style of dance is... I would have to say that I dance Elegant American Cabaret.

I love to wear the exotic sparkling costumes, play the zils (finger cymbals), wooden spoons, sword, the Wings of Isis and to spin the cane around.
And the veils, ah, the veils... I absolutely LOVE dancing with these.  I dance with single and double veil and for the most part only use Chinese silk veils.

Not to worry, I believe the art of belly dance is one of continued education.  I continue to broaden my knowledge with classes, workshops, Hafla's and from just watching my dance sisters out there.

I am the Chapter Head of the New Hampshire North East Belly Dance Association.  And my goal with this is to bring the art and joy of dance to all.
