About Ayla
I began my journey into the world of bellydance in January of 2006 at the YMCA in Nashua, New Hampshire with a wonderful Egyptian dancer, teacher and now great friend, Zahira~Zuhra. Under Zahira's instruction I learned the art of Egyptian, Arabic and American Cabaret style of dance.
My dancing has evolved from my "roots" of Egyptian / Arabic / American Cabaret style of dance to a short beginner stint or dabble if you will, into the styles of Candle, Bollywood and Tribal style dancing. During this time frame I found the style that spoke to my heart... Turkish Rom and Oriental. My inspiration in these styles of dance are Artemis Mourat and our very own Turkish dancer and a great friend of mine, Aslahan. If asked what my style of dance is... I would have to say that I dance Elegant American Cabaret.
I love to wear the exotic sparkling costumes, play the zils (finger cymbals), spoons and to spin the cane around.
And the veils, ah, the veils... I absolutely LOVE dancing with these. I dance with single and double veil and for the most part only use Chinese silk veils.
Not to worry, I believe the art of belly dance is one of continued education. I continue to broaden my knowledge with classes, workshops, Hafla's and from just watching my dance sisters out there.
